Description/Story:

Then she said, *"I’m happy to hear this, Hajiya. And if they meet, may Allah grant us what is best."*

Hajiya Saratu replied, *"Amin, amin. Insha Allah, tomorrow they will meet face to face. There’s no need to delay."*

Ummi smiled. *"Good! Now we’ll have Faseelat’s matter settled."*

Hajiya Saratu said, *"Ever since I arrived, I’ve been hearing about Mubarak at school."*

Ummi replied, *"She’s sleeping. Let me go and get her for you."*

Hajiya said, *"No, leave her. Let me get going."*

Ummi responded, *"Alright, thank you. Safe journey home."*

As they stepped out, Ummi and Rakiya walked her to the middle of the compound when Faseelat came out, heading to the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her. She saw them and bowed slightly, noticing Hajiya Saratu and the others passing by the toilet. Hajiya Saratu glanced back with a knowing look before leaving.

Ummi went to the kitchen, while Faseelat finished her bath, brushed her teeth, and came out looking for food. Entering the kitchen, she saw Ummi working alone. Without saying much, she took the *kunun tsamiya* (tamarind drink) that had been made, sipped it, and returned it, saying Ummi had done a good job.

Ummi said, *"Wait, let me fry something so we can eat together."*

Faseelat replied, *"No, Ummi, leave it. I’ll manage."*

Ummi said, *"Alright,"* then sat down and asked, *"Pass me the onion and the tomato I was cutting for you."*

Faseelat handed them over while Ummi continued talking. *"Faseelat!"*

Faseelat turned. *"Yes, Ummi?"*

Ummi continued, *"Hajiya Saratu came with news about her son Khalil wanting to marry you. She came to seek permission so you two can meet and understand each other."*

Faseelat froze for a moment before responding, *"Okay, Ummi."*

Ummi added, *"He’ll be here tomorrow, so prepare yourself. And for Allah’s sake, don’t ignore him."*

Faseelat repeated, *"Okay, Ummi."*

Ummi went on, *"Hajiya Saratu is a wealthy woman. Ever since we returned from Saudi Arabia, she’s treated me like family. She loves me and my children wholeheartedly. Honestly, she’s even suggested we become blood relatives. Allah, I pray you bless this union."*

Faseelat stayed silent, continuing to pick the beans in front of her.

Meanwhile, Hajiya Saratu was returning home, discussing with her husband how things had gone. He said, *"If Allah wills it, this is what’s best."*

By 2 PM, Khalil arrived at Hajiya’s house, slumping onto a chair. *"I’m very tired, Hajiya."*

She teased him, *"You act like you’ve been working hard."*

He replied, *"Allah, Hajiya, I can barely keep my eyes open. Let me go eat and sleep."*

As he stretched out, Hajiya Saratu said, *"Sit back down."*

He obeyed, waiting for what she would say.

*"I went to speak with a friend of mine. You’ll go and see her daughter. Since you’re old enough to marry, I’ve chosen her for you. Get ready tomorrow—you’ll go and meet her. Should I give you the address so you can find her?"*

As she spoke, he stared at her. *"But Hajiya, you know I don’t have time for marriage right now. Honestly."*

Hajiya waved him off dismissively. *"Get out of here!"*

He stood up, reaching the door before turning back. *"But Hajiya… do you think the girl will even agree?"*

Hajiya Saratu waved him away again.

With that, he left the room, grumbling to himself. *"Marriage? Honestly, I don’t even look at women unless it’s love at first sight. I’m even scared of women—some nights I can’t sleep because of them. How will I approach a girl for the first time? What will we even talk about?"*

Faseelat, too, couldn’t sleep. *"Will he be like her dream guy? Honestly, I’ve never thought of marriage unless it’s exactly what I want. If he doesn’t suit me, I won’t marry him."*

She tossed and turned all night.

The next morning...

After completing her usual chores, she dressed up, wearing her best skirt and blouse, then sat waiting. Ummi had called Hajiya, who said they’d arrive by 11 AM.

She checked the clock—11 AM had passed. Frustrated, she removed her wrapper and lay on the bed, her heart pounding. Just then, a knock came at the door. A girl’s voice called out, *"Faseelat!"*

Before her stood a young man—tall, well-dressed, the complete package.

The girl who had entered earlier told Ummi, *"Call her, she should come out."*

She entered Faseelat’s room. *"Get up and fix your face, the men are here!"*

Faseelat jumped from the bed, checking the mirror repeatedly, applying a little more makeup. She couldn’t wait to see him.

As she stepped out of the house, she wiped her sweaty left palm on her skirt. *"Oh God, is that really a Honda behind him? Mmm!"*

She quickly switched to her right hand, then froze when she saw him standing there, staring at her. His gaze traveled from her head down to her feet, and she did the same.
